Utilizing Tile for a Healthy Home

July 7, 2021

Aside from the unique designs, flexibility and ease of maintenance, there are many great reasons to choose ceramic or porcelain tile for your home. However, one of the best benefits may be that it is one of the healthiest material choices you can make. Created from natural materials that contain no toxins, tile also does not require chemicals to maintain. To clean porcelain or ceramic tile, use mild soap, water and a sponge to scrub away any dirt or spills. Once you are done cleaning, you should dry the area completely to avoid slips or falls on tile flooring.

Why Choose Tile for Your Home?

Tile is a sustainable, strong material that works in any room of the house. The rigorous firing process that occurs during production fuses the glaze to the body of the tile, creating a strong barrier that does not allow water, allergens or mold to sink into the tile. When you combine this with the appropriate setting and sealing materials, you are looking at a seamless and waterproof floor or shower area. Keep in mind that slip-resistant tile is best to use for areas prone to moisture or water such as your bathroom or shower.

Not only is tile used for bathroom flooring, but it’s also used for kitchen backsplashes, shower floors, walls and more. It is a durable, easy-to-clean material that looks great in any room in the house.

Another great reason to choose ceramic or porcelain tile is because they are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and plastic or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). VOCs are gases emitted into the atmosphere that contain chemicals and can cause adverse health effects. These are typically found in manufactured products used to build and maintain homes such as paint, cleaning supplies and building materials. PVC is an element that is found in many vinyl products such as flooring or furniture. Overexposure to this can cause cancer.

Tile is a safe, durable and sustainable material that works great in any home. Many other healthy home advantages include:

  • Tile is made with antibacterial and non-toxic materials. Tile is made with non-flammable, non-toxic material that does not enable the growth of bacteria.
  • Tile is made with hypoallergenic materials. Being nonporous, tile does not allow allergens to stick or sink in.
  • Tile is free of formaldehyde. Ceramic tile does not contain formaldehyde and is not subject to the risks or concerns such as irritation to the skin, eyes, nose and throat that may be present in other flooring materials like wood.
  • Tile is environmentally friendly. Porcelain, glass and ceramic tile are all sustainable tile options that are durable and easy to maintain.

With the options available at Emser Tile, you can find indoor tile that works great for any room in the house, whether it’s for your bathroom, kitchen backsplash or living area.

Choosing the Right Tile

A healthy home requires some maintenance and cleaning, which is extremely easy to do with any type of tile backsplash, walls or flooring. Without the need for harsh chemicals, you can use water and mild soap to easily clean your tile.

In order to choose the right tile, you need to figure out which room you are starting with. For example, if you are starting with your bathroom tile, check out shower wall tile.

Emser Tile has options for any room in your home and multiple different looks to choose from, including traditional, contemporary and wood looks. Check the tile description to find the surface texture and finish so you can get the perfect tile for your needs.
